Description
Depuis sa fondation, l’église Christ Church, devenue plus tard une cathédrale, s’inscrit dans la longue tradition de la musique sacrée occidentale et y a apporté sa contribution. Cela inclut non seulement le chant et la musique instrumentale, mais aussi la composition d’œuvres musicales pour des occasions particulières. Les orgues de la cathédrale font partie intégrante de cette histoire, depuis « l’orgue du roi », offert à Christ Church par le roi George III en 1813, jusqu’à l’orgue actuel, œuvre du facteur d’orgues allemand Karl Wilhelm de Mont-Saint-Hilaire, installé en 1880.

Since the parish church that became Christ Church Cathedral was founded, it has been part of the long tradition of church music in the Western tradition and has contributed to that tradition. This includes not only singing and instrumental music, but also the composition of music for special occasions. The Cathedral’s organs are part of that history, from the “King’s organ”, given to Christ Church by King George III in 1813, to the current organ by the German organ builder Karl Wilhelm of Mont-Saint-Hilaire, installed in 1880.
A slideshow will tell the musical story of the Cathedral: the instruments, the composers, and the many people and events that make up that history.
